Almaty. November 15. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - The National Bank of Kazakhstan and the National Payment Corporation (NPC) have initiated a pilot project for the implementation of interbank QR payments.
The first transaction demonstration took place on November 15 during the Congress of Financiers of Kazakhstan in Almaty, featuring participation from two second-tier banks.
The interbank QR payment service is one of the essential components of the National Digital Financial Infrastructure (NDFI), which will enable citizens to make quick and convenient QR payments," - noted the National Bank.
For businesses, the introduction of interbank QR payments will allow them to reduce costs associated with installing multiple terminals from different banks, while citizens will be able to pay via QR code through any bank's terminal in the country.
In turn, banks will be able to optimize costs by lowering the expense of processing interbank transactions and expand payment services for clients as part of their participation in the NDFI infrastructure," - emphasized the National Bank.
Currently, the functionality of the interbank QR payment system is ready, and a phased connection of participating banks is underway.
The project’s scaling is planned for 2025.
