Astana. December 20. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - The National Bank of Kazakhstan reported an increase in complaints from citizens regarding refusals by exchange points of second-tier banks and non-bank exchange offices to exchange cash dollars issued between 1996 and 2013.
In this regard, the NBK reminds that these banknotes are legal tender and must be accepted at exchange points in Kazakhstan without any fees, provided they are genuine and undamaged," the regulator's press service emphasized.
The National Bank stressed that the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan does not allow for fees when exchanging intact foreign currency banknotes that are not deemed unfit for circulation. Fees can only be established by exchange points if the banknotes being exchanged are unfit for payment or unserviceable.
Furthermore, if an exchange point charges a fee or differentiates cash foreign currency based on the year of issue of the banknotes, or unjustifiably refuses to exchange currency, it is necessary to file a complaint with the territorial branch of the National Bank at the location of the exchange point. The complaint should include relevant information along with any supporting documents to take appropriate legal measures," the NBK stated.
