The reasons for the resignation of the 49-year-old official have not been disclosed.
Nurlan Baibazarov served as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy for less than a year, having been appointed in February.
He has been involved in public service and the quasi-public sector since 1997, holding positions in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of National Economy. He was the Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan (from 2022 to 2023) and the holding company "Baiterek" (from 2023 to February 2024).
At the end of October, Baibazarov stated that GDP growth in 2025 is projected to be 5.6 percent. Previously, the government was tasked with ensuring that GDP growth does not fall below 6 percent next year.
From January to November of the current year, the GDP, according to government information, was 4.4 percent. The Cabinet attributes this to not meeting the forecasted oil production targets.
For many years, Kazakh authorities have emphasized the need for economic diversification and the development of manufacturing sectors, yet the state budget still significantly relies on oil prices and other raw materials intended for export.
