He clarified that the rise in traffic accidents on these road sections occurs regardless of the type of repair (routine or major).
The most reliable tools for preventing traffic accidents on republican and international roads, according to the speaker, are the installation of speed cameras and the presence of patrol services. Other measures, he stated, play a less significant role in the fight against traffic accidents in percentage terms.
“It has been decided that in the implementation of projects, regardless of the type of repair, we will immediately provide for speed cameras, which have already been coordinated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We will also install automatic weighing devices to combat heavy vehicles that damage new roads. Next year we will begin implementation, and we expect to see the first results in the first half of the year,” said Darkhan Imanashev.
In Kazakhstan, despite periodic reports from officials regarding measures taken to ensure road safety, major traffic accidents continue to occur on intercity roads, as well as on republican and international highways.
Recently, tragic reports of fatal traffic accidents have frequently come from the Aktobe region in western Kazakhstan. In August, on the Samara — Shymkent highway in the Aktobe region, a MAN truck veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a Toyota Ipsum vehicle carrying five children and three adults. All of them perished.
In March of this year, also in the Aktobe region, a traffic accident occurred on the Aktobe — Astrakhan highway, resulting in the deaths of eight people. Among the eight deceased, four were children.
In December of last year, in the Aktobe region, a teacher and two children en route to a national subject Olympiad were killed in a collision between a Toyota Alphard and a truck on the highway.
According to police information, this year, 1,141 incidents were recorded on the roads in the Aktobe region. In these accidents, 22 children lost their lives, and 385 children were injured.
The high accident rate on the roads in Kazakhstan is mainly attributed to the unsatisfactory condition of the roads and the non-compliance with traffic rules.
