The European Council has reaffirmed its "unwavering commitment to continue providing political, financial, economic, humanitarian, military, and diplomatic support to Ukraine and its people for as long as necessary and to the extent required." "Russia must not win," the final document of the summit states, as reported by RFI.
To assist Ukraine in effectively defending against Russian aggression, the European Council calls for an urgent increase in efforts, particularly in the area of supplying air defense systems. The European Council emphasizes the importance of intensifying work to further support and develop Ukraine's defense industry and deepen its cooperation with the EU's defense industry, as stated in the declaration adopted on December 19 by the European Council.
EU leaders also expressed their readiness to increase pressure on Russia by imposing additional sanctions. According to EU law, Russian assets must remain frozen until Moscow ends its aggressive war against Ukraine and compensates for the damage caused by this war, the statement also notes.
