The assassination attempt on Allamjonov occurred in October, just one day before the parliamentary elections in the country and approximately a month after his resignation from the administration. Allamjonov, an associate of Saida Mirziyoyeva, the eldest daughter of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was unharmed. The authorities of Uzbekistan reported at that time the detention of several individuals.
According to the Uzbek publication "Vzglyad," the suspects, ethnic Chechens, were offered money to carry out an assassination on another high-ranking official, the head of the National Agency for Prospective Projects, Dmitry Li.
The investigation claims that the Russians agreed to participate in the assassination for 1.5 million US dollars. Both entered Uzbekistan through the Kyrgyz border, with one of them allegedly crossing illegally, as stated in the "Vzglyad" publication.
The Uzbek edition of Azattyk previously reported that due to obstruction of the investigation into the assassination attempt on Allamjonov, Uzbekistan's National Security Service chief Abdusalom Azizov and several other high-ranking officials were dismissed.
In this case, a native of Uzbekistan has already been detained, who in 2021 was suspected by Turkish authorities of involvement in planning armed attacks on opposition Chechen activists. At that time, Rasayev was also detained. Chechnya's leader Ramzan Kadyrov stated in November that neither he nor the natives of the republic were involved in the crime committed in Tashkent.
No official charges of attempted murder have been brought against the Russians. Interpol's records indicate that 31-year-old Temirkhanov is suspected of illegal arms and ammunition trafficking, as well as failing to report a crime or concealing it; 36-year-old Rasayev faces the same suspicions, along with charges of smuggling.
