According to statements made by the press service of the head of Tatarstan, the city recorded a total of eight arrivals of Ukrainian drones, including in the vicinity of an industrial facility and residential areas.
Preliminary official reports indicate that there are no casualties. However, it has been reported that the Ministry of Health of Tatarstan has placed Kazan hospitals on high alert.
The drones struck, in particular, the residential complexes “Azure Skies” and “Manhattan.” Two drones flew one after the other into the 37-story building “Azure Skies,” which is considered the tallest residential building in Kazan. A video is published by the Telegram channel Shot. The area around the building has been cordoned off. Residents were evacuated using the stairs — temporary accommodation and hot meals have been arranged for them.
Local residents also reported a fire in a four-story building following the drone strike, reports Astra. Another drone hit the top of the “Manhattan” residential complex. Shot, citing a source, writes that three individuals have cuts from shattered glass.
Videos are also being published showing other drones over Kazan and their wreckage. The airports in Kazan, Izhevsk, and Saratov temporarily suspended operations. During the restrictions, five flights bound for Kazan were redirected to alternative airfields.
Schools and technical colleges were selectively evacuated, and some shopping centers closed. All mass events scheduled for the weekend have been canceled.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the drones approached Kazan from different directions in three waves. Three UAVs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were destroyed by air defense forces, while another three were suppressed by electronic warfare systems, as stated in the report from the ministry.
The Ukrainian side has not commented on the drone attack in Kazan.
