In the Mangistau region, ensuring access to drinking water remains a pressing issue. To address the energy resource deficit gradually, 10 projects with a total capacity of 140,500 cubic meters of desalinated water are planned for implementation by 2025.
A desalination plant with a capacity of 17,000 cubic meters per day has been launched at the Karajanbas field. As a result, 15,000 cubic meters of potable water from the "Astrakhan – Mangistau" pipeline are now utilized by the residents of the city of Zhanaozen and the villages of Beineu and Zhetybay. Work continues on the second phase to increase the capacity of the "Caspian" desalination plant to 40,000 cubic meters, with completion expected by the end of this year.
In Aktau, a private investor has built a desalination plant with a capacity of 7,000 cubic meters per day. Currently, the plant produces 5,000 cubic meters of drinking water daily.
In the village of Sayin Shapagatov in the Tupkaragan district, a private investor has constructed a desalination unit with a capacity of 6,500 cubic meters per day. Today, this unit produces 4,000 cubic meters of drinking water and supplies the villages of Akshukur and Sayin Shapagatov. Its capacity will be increased in the future.
“This year, the construction of desalination plants with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day has begun in the city of Fort-Shevchenko in the Tupkaragan district, and a 24,000 cubic meter per day facility on the territory of 'MAEK', a plant producing 50,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day in the Kendirli area. The plant is being built with the support of the national company 'KazMunayGas', and we will take all necessary measures to complete these projects by 2025,” said the region's akim Nurdaulet Kilybay.
One alternative source of water resources is the "Kuyulus" field, located 43 km from Aktau. Currently, the pipeline is completely outdated. To develop the field, the pipeline leading to the "Caspian" desalination plant is being updated. These works are under the close supervision of the Head of State.
