Beijing. December 11. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - The final meeting of the Council of National Coordinators of the SCO member states for this year has commenced in Beijing, where the organization's Secretary-General Zhang Ming officially introduced his successor, Nurlan Ermekbaev, according to the SCO press service.
Ermekbaev will serve as the Secretary-General of the SCO from 2025 to 2027. He was appointed to the position on July 4, 2024, during the SCO summit in Astana, but will officially assume office on January 1.
While introducing the new head of the organization, Zhang Ming described him as a "highly qualified political figure and diplomat."
Previously, Nurlan Ermekbaev held the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO.
Additionally, Ermekbaev has served as the Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society, and held the position of Assistant to the President - Secretary of the Security Council. He also served as the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan.
