Astana. November 28. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - During a press conference in Astana, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed whether he personally discussed the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan and the selection of a contractor.
We paid considerable attention to this matter during our negotiations yesterday, both in a narrow and a broader format. If Kazakhstan decides to pursue its nuclear energy projects, it certainly has the right, like any client, to choose the most suitable technological solutions and financial schemes for itself,” noted the Russian president.
He emphasized that the Russian company "Rosatom" is the largest of its kind in the world, including in terms of the number of nuclear power plants under construction abroad.
We do not just build power plants. Typically, we create an industry in the country that is embarking on this type of activity. We train personnel, supply necessary materials, take away spent fuel, and so on, contributing to the development of science in the nuclear field,” said Vladimir Putin.
According to him, if the Kazakh side has the need and desire to implement certain solutions, including technological solutions from third countries, and to invite their specialists for joint work, this is also possible, and "Rosatom" has experience in collaborating with foreign partners.
The final decision always lies with the client. But I believe that our cooperation with Kazakhstan in this area is quite feasible. It would indeed be strange if Kazakhstan, which possesses the largest uranium reserves in the world, did not utilize this resource but only extracted it and exported it,” said the head of Russia.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of creating an international consortium for the construction of a nuclear power plant. The head of state announced the potential for cooperation between Kazakhstan and France in the field of civilian nuclear energy. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan discussed cooperation in nuclear energy with the head of "Rosatom."
