Astana. December 12. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - During a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Valentina Matviyenko, the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, discussed the potential involvement of "Rosatom" in the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country, as stated by Valentina Matviyenko during a press briefing.
Kazakhstan, for instance, is interested in the participation of "Rosatom" in the construction of a nuclear power plant. However, no decision has been made yet; it is still under discussion. We hope that "Rosatom's" experience as a company with extensive expertise in building nuclear power plants in many countries around the world, and as a company that implements these projects at a new level—safe, environmentally reliable, with a high degree of guarantees—will be beneficial," the Federation Council Chairperson reported.
She also emphasized that the final decision will be made by the political leadership of Kazakhstan.
Previously, the President of the Russian Federation expressed his views on the participation of "Rosatom" in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of creating an international consortium for the construction of a nuclear power plant. The head of state stated the potential for cooperation between Kazakhstan and France in the field of civilian nuclear energy. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan discussed cooperation in nuclear energy with the head of "Rosatom."
