Doha. December 7. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, participated in a special panel session of the Doha Forum in the format of a Newsmaker Interview and responded to questions from the moderator - CNN journalist Julia Chatterley, reports Akorda.
The President of Kazakhstan emphasized the significance of the effective functioning of the UN and the growing role of middle powers.
The UN, as a universal organization, is absolutely essential for humanity; there is no alternative. Unfortunately, major powers have failed to make the global world safer. The current realities certainly raise significant concerns among many countries, including Kazakhstan. Therefore, the UN requires reform. We believe that bridges must be built between major powers, the absence of which has, unfortunately, led the Security Council into a deadlock. So-called middle powers, including Kazakhstan, can play a very important role in promoting peace and security both regionally and globally," - noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The head of state also expressed his views on issues related to contradictions in global trade.
In my opinion, trade conflicts, including tariff measures, are not the best solution; this is a rather questionable policy. Kazakhstan, as a member of the WTO, strictly adheres to all norms and rules of this important trade and economic organization. We do not support barriers and conflicts. Kazakhstan is not involved in such confrontations because we maintain constructive and mutually beneficial relations with our regional neighbors and other countries. Therefore, I believe that such problems do not threaten our part of the world. At the same time, we urge all major powers to refrain from using such pressure tools," - said the president.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also answered questions regarding Kazakhstan's foreign policy, the resolution of the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the role of youth in the development of our country.
Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan met with the Emir of Qatar and heads of Qatari energy companies.
