“Assad is no longer in power. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, is no longer interested in defending him,” Trump wrote.
According to the elected president, Moscow has lost interest in Syria due to Ukraine, “where around 600,000 Russian soldiers have been injured or killed in a war that should never have started and may continue indefinitely.”
Trump also noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would like to reach an agreement with Russia to “end this madness.” The elected U.S. president clarified that Ukraine has lost 400,000 soldiers and many more civilians. (These figures are unofficial, and there are vastly different estimates of the military losses on both sides; the Russian and Ukrainian authorities do not disclose complete information regarding these casualties.)
“I know Vladimir [Putin] well. Now is his time to act. China can help. The world is waiting!” Trump emphasized.
The day before, a meeting took place in Paris between the elected U.S. president, the president of Ukraine, and French President Emmanuel Macron. The conversation lasted about 35 minutes. There was no press conference following the meeting. The presidents went to the ceremony for the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, restored after the fire.
