Astana. December 9. KAZAKHSTAN TODAY - The Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, has been elected as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CSTO.

A joint meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and the XVII plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization has commenced in Moscow.

At the very beginning of the meeting, Vyacheslav Volodin was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. Colleagues from CSTO member states praised the high professionalism and long-term effective work of the assembly's chairman," - reported in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.

According to the agenda of the meeting, a number of issues are scheduled for discussion, including the implementation of the priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CSTO, the priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic during its chairmanship in the CSTO in 2025, the outcomes of the recent November session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, and the current activities of the organization, as well as the adoption of legislative acts and political statements on current security issues.

Vyacheslav Volodin, speaking at the meeting, emphasized the importance of the model acts adopted by the assembly.

A lot has been done on the path to forming a unified legal space. 89 model acts have been adopted. Today we will discuss eight more," - he noted.

He especially thanked his colleagues from Kazakhstan for their effective chairmanship in the CSTO and highlighted one of the priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic, which will assume the chairmanship in 2025, regarding the continued development of inter-parliamentary cooperation within the organization, including efforts to harmonize the legislation of member states.

In modern conditions, the demand for establishing a sustainable security system in the interests of peaceful coexistence among all Eurasian states is increasing. Within the framework of parliamentary measures, we must contribute to this process," - emphasized the chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.

In conclusion of his speech, Volodin drew attention to one of the main issues on today's agenda - the adoption of an appeal to the peoples of the member states of the Organization and the parliaments of the world in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory. He noted that "defending historical truth is our priority. We owe it to those who today cannot defend themselves - our grandfathers and great-grandfathers."

He reminded that next year, citizens of CSTO member states will jointly celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and invited his colleagues to participate in the International Forum of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory. This event will take place in April next year in the hero city of Volgograd.
