Mikhail Kokhanchik from the Kostanay region has advanced to the semifinals of the championship taking place in Karaganda, as reported by Vesti.kz.
In the quarterfinals of the under 80-kilogram weight category, he defeated Ayatulla Takizhanov from the Pavlodar region with a score of 4:1.
In the semifinals, scheduled for December 23, Kokhanchik will face Azamat Bektas from the Kyzylorda region. Both boxers have already secured at least bronze medals.
Kokhanchik is known for creating a major upset at the Kazakhstan Championship in 2017 when he defeated middleweight Zhanibek Alimkhanuly, who is currently performing well in the professional ring.
Kokhanchik also has experience in professional boxing, having achieved six victories (five by knockout) and suffered one defeat.
The Kazakhstan Championship also features boxers from the national team, in addition to the winners and medalists of the 2024 Asian Championship.
